The Moon

I've been watching the moon and stars for as long as I can remember.  My Dad, Col. Phil Combies, was a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force.  I have fond memories of stargazing with him.  One night, when I was about 12, he asked me if I'd like him to show me the Little Dipper.  I answered yes, of course, so we got up at 5 a.m. as that's when it could be seen best.  Good times...  I recently read that you can tell time by the Big Dipper; that's on my to do list.

I've actually been drawn to the moon, I guess you'd say, but something changed this past summer.  I see the moon, take cool pictures, but I don't feel the moon anymore.  I haven't noticed behavior changes in people or animals either.  As a dog groomer, trust me, the moon phases do cause an effect.  New and full moons are not the time to deal with a difficult dog.  The pictures below are certainly not the norm... I'd never noticed so many clouds around the moon, or the sun (checkout the sun page, the pics are a trip).

The "blue moon" of New Year's Ever 2009.  For those who don't know, the phrase "once in a blue moon," came about as every 2 or 3 years there is an extra full moon; a third full moon in a four full moon season, or the second full moon of a calendar month.  Most years have 12 full moons, but in addition to twelve lunar cycles, the solar calendar has 11 extra days, which add up so seven times in the Metonic Cycle (19 years) there is an extra full moon.

Did we really bomb the moon to check for water?  Why is this necessary?  We need to take care of the planet we're living on.  There's no need to find water elsewhere... what are we going to do?  Are we so self-fulfilling that we'll move on to other planets, destroy the natural habitat, because we're too greedy to make things right here on earth?  Are the lines at the drive-thru coffee shops just too long?

Planets are living beings... creatures, if you will. Who do we think we are?  And how long do you think we'll get away with this kind of behavior?  I realize these are all questions... anybody have an answer?  I don't know what to make of the 2012 phenomena, but something's gotta give.  I believe we're going to be enlightened... as well as stunned, scared and ashamed.
